"It's got to work," I say, hope welling up in me with enough force that I
can feel blood pounding in my ears and temples. I kiss him again, then drop
to my knees so I can wrap my arms around him. And the chair, too, I guess.
Tears well up, happy ones, and it's not like I've ever been good at
hiding my emotions but right now everything is especially raw and real.
