Lee smiled kindly at Susan, and he felt a little bad, letting himself resort to innuendo that way with someone he knew didn't have a frame of reference. Though it did make him wonder if Susan had the same sorts of feelings he did sometimes, attraction, desire, any kind of interest in sharing herself with someone else, emotionally or otherwise.
She seemed so hemmed in a lot of the time, very aware of herself and sure of who she was, never mincing words or worrying about saying the wrong thing. It was one of the things Lee liked most about her, how blunt she was, how refreshingly genuine. But there was a level of guardedness sometimes, though Lee thought it was more for his benefit than hers.
