It was only after the words were out that he realized how that sounded, like maybe he wanted an excuse to have somewhere else to be, or that he'd rather have somewhere else to be. He did nothing to correct the words, for a moment. He was enjoying himself, so far, but he also felt like he was proving a point he hadn't thought was necessary to prove, a point that was all Virginia and not Darrow.
This was what he was good at. Distraction and giving people what they needed, what they wanted. He pillowed his head against Lee's shoulder, soft and young, more a boy now than he'd been at any other point except for his stupid Titanic joke.
"I'd like to stay." Not staying meant another night in the warehouse, or on a couch feeling like a burden. At least, like this, he had a moment of feeling desirable even if it was only for tonight.
